Here are my personal business cards! To make the top one, I made a hexed polka dot pattern in illustrator and placed my personal logo on top of a white circle. I liked how the small polka dots complimented my personal logo without overwhelming it.
I decided to model my second business card after the example shown on the right. The image I used is of the Kansas City skyline, since that is where I'm from. I like how it's simple, but makes a statement about who I am.
Here is my postcard! I made it by creating a clipping mask on top of a sunset image and moving the copy to make the text visible.
To make my motif, I first used the direct select tool to morph an ellipse. then I used the rotate tool to rotate it, then I used pathfinder to exclude some parts of the shape. This motif was so simple to make, and I enjoyed using the skills I acquired on Illustrator to make interesting shapes.
The process for my repeat pattern was similar to my motif. I started by creating the flower using the rotate tool, and then used option drag to copy it. I used the pattern maker to make the quadrant pattern feel. Overall, I learned a lot about repeat patterns and use of white space while doing my repeat pattern.
Hexadecimal Codes Hexadecimal codes are made up of 6 numbers or letters and follow a hashtag. They follow the template #RGB, meaning red, green, and blue, and there's two numbers or letters for each color. The numbers range from 0-6, one being the least color and 6 being the most, and the letters go from A-F, where A is more color than 6 and F is the most. For example, here's what the code would look like for a div with a black background and white text: Color Words Color words are very useful when you don't need a specific color. You can use them by simply putting them in place of a color code, but be sure not to use any spaces! The example to the right shows the code of a body with a black background and white text using color words. Here's a chart of a few color words and their hexadecimal codes:
RGB and RGBa Instead of hexadecimal codes or color words, you can use RGB or RGBa format to get a little but more of a variety in color choice. The image at the right shows how to switch to RGB or RGBa in dreamweaver when making a CSS rule. RGB is displayed as three numbers in parentheses separated by commas, and RGBa is the same except for a fourth number on the end that will always be between 0 and 1. That fourth number controls transparency, 0 being completely transparent and 1 being completely opaque. The code below shows 4 increasingly opaque sections:

Here is what the code above looks like over an image. Now you know how to put color and transparency in your webpages!
For this project, I began by using the tutorial to learn how to make the pencil. During the tutorial I started to look away from it and figure out the shapes myself, only checking it to make sure I had the right dimensions. This process helped me discover more about Illustrator on my own and retain more of what I was learning. When it became time to make my creative pencil, I remembered how to create it and how to use the live paint bucket tool to customize it. I decided to make a huge pile of pencils with 2 in the cup because I feel like it represents me well: I am very messy and
unorganized sometimes, but I'm trying to figure it out.
My biggest takeaways from this project were all about being more comfortable and knowledgeable with Illustrator. I learned how to rotate a shape to create my flower, and, more generally, how to use the tools and settings in Illustrator to turn basic shapes into really cool objects. I also learned many shortcuts, such as command+G is how you group something, and also how to create a cylinder using two different pieces in order to manipulate it more easily.
the art or skill of combining text and pictures in advertisements, magazines, or books.
This is the definition you get for graphic design when you look in a dictionary, but graphic design is so much more. It could be an image on a website, or a logo on a t-shirt. It is the pictures on your albums and the posters on your walls. Graphic design is all around us, in everything we see, and every single thing gives us a message. We are influenced by all the images around us and, most of the time, we don't even realize it.
To me, graphic design is made to leave an impact.
The impact could be small: you start paying attention to something you never would have because of a meaningful graphic, or even change the way you think about a topic. Graphic design is the language of life, and whether we notice or not, everything we see changes the way we see the next thing. It is humanity, and it is everywhere. cool album covers
As you can see, the Herzl Camp website has changed drastically since 2001. The old website, shown on the left, contained only a block of content in the middle of the webpage, while the new website, on the right, fills the entire screen. The font for the logo remained the same, although the colors are different. The new website shows just a picture of the lake, contrasting from the small collage of camper pictures displayed on the old website. The simply displayed links on the 2001 website make the site almost easier to use than the dropdown links the new website has on it's toolbar. While the new website may be aesthetically pleasing, the simpler layout of the old website makes it much more easy to use.
The code of the two websites are very different, too. Because of the way html used to be, the 2001 code has a lot of table and td tags, and not very many divs. Now, we don't use many tables and instead use divs and lists. There's less code in the old website because there was so much less content then on the new site.
The pandora website from 2006 didn't not have much aesthetic design. It consisted of mainly text describing what the purpose of the website was, and had a plain yellow background. This is very different from the 2015 version, where there is only a short description and a type box to instantly create a radio station. The background is blue, with a floating circle design. The font for the Pandora logo is still the same.
Like the Herzl website, the old version of HTML contained a lot of tables and td tags. The 2015 version uses a lot of divs, which makes the overall code easier to read. The old website still had less code due to how much less content it had.
The old Skype website was very clunky looking. It had a busy layout that made it hard to process all the different aspects of the webpage. The new webpage, however, developed a scrolling layout that looks much sleeker but still contains all the information. The Skype bubble logo is still the same, but it changed from green to blue.
Like the other two websites, the old version contains a lot of tr and td tags, which makes the code look really messy. The updated website has a lot of div tags, which make the code look much more organized and manageable.
The animation rotation was where my group first started putting together our ideas and landed on the idea of a mood detecting dog collar. We started by making sketches of the features we wanted our dog collar to have. We decided on the red easy removal button, colorful outside, comfortably padded inside, and an adjustable strap. When it came to creating the collar and its surroundings on Sketch Up, I took on the role of creating 3-D text for the animation, as seen above. Technically, I learned a lot about the 3-D text feature on Sketch Up I was previously unaware of. I figured out how to toggle the size of the text and the depth of it, as well as its font. Professionally, I worked to advocate for my group, being the only extrovert, as I was the one to make sure all the pieces of our animation were able to fit together. Next time, I will use my time more efficiently in each rotation, and take advantage of the rotation I'm in to get all my work done on time.
Graphic Design
While in the graphic design rotation, we firmly landed on the idea of Pup-E-Motion. I helped create the word mark for our logo, starting out by trying the product's name in a variety of different fonts. When we chose the font we liked best, another member of our group worked to finalize the colors and fit it with the icon. Then I began creating the banner, which is shown above, using our logo, slogan, icon colors, and another font we chose (Cooper Black). Technically, I used this banner to refresh my skills on Illustrator and Photoshop, as I hadn't worked with them in a while. Professionally, I again pushed my group to complete all our individual tasks on time, and made sure everyone used their class time wisely to finish all the components. Again, next time I would work harder in this rotation to finish all my tasks on time.
Web Design
I was mainly in charge of my product's website, but both Abbey and Blake worked in it as well. Before we started, we gathered all the materials we had worked on in previous rotations and put them into a website folder. Then, we chose the colors from our logo we would use on our website. Finally, we put everything together in the actual website, where we each worked on certain areas of it. Technically, I got more practice with Dreamweaver and how to embed videos. Professionally, our idea of splitting the project up to get it done quicker was very effective. Next time, I will think of how I can adapt that technique into future projects.
Video
When we first started brainstorming ideas for our video, we used the Spongebob Training video for inspiration. Then we storyboarded our ideas for a dog reacting to certain situations to show what color the collar changed to. While filming, I was the main actor. For our final video, we incorporated the music from Spongebob and exemplified the testimonial aspect of each of our dog scenarios. Technically, I worked more with final cut pro ad practiced timing audio with my shots. Professionally, we worked to combine our ideas in the video and choose who's video would be the final one. Next time, I hope we get more shots while filming in order to have more to work with while editing.
Our product is Pup-e-Motion, a dog collar that changes color based on what your dog is feeling. The premise of our commercial was to show how the dog collar works using humor. That's why we show clips of the dog in different situations while wearing the dog collar, and put labels on to show what the colors of the collar mean and how the dog reacted to the situation. We felt the general idea of our product was useful because people always want to know what their dog is thinking or feeling, and we thought it would be clever to use humor and demonstration to showcase the usefulness of our product. We also liked the idea of showing the dog owner first wanting to know what the dog is feeling, then being very happy when the product worked, almost in the form of a testimonial. Overall, I hope that our video not only makes the viewer laugh, but also have the desire to buy our product in order to discover what their dog is feeling.
Today our assignment was to build something out of legos with a team with varying knowledge of what the final structure should look like. Either the person looking at the table could only talk, only point, only gesture, or each person has a set of directions and no one knows what the final structure should be.
I learned that working with a team can be very difficult, because it requires communication among people who may have very different ways of thinking. To work successfully in a team, you have to be very patient and be flexible when trying to communicate.
In the future, I will use what I've learned about teamwork to communicate with all types of people in a nice, effective way. Hopefully my teamwork skills will improve with more activities and practice in working with a team.
Our assignment for this project was to create a website for the company RISK. We created a fully functional website with six pages, a sidebar, header, and footer, and embedded pictures and videos on every page. I had past experience working with HTML and CSS, so this project was fairly easy. I hope to continue in the web design strand of e-comm in the future.
Our assignment for this project was to design, create, and animate our dream house on Google Sketch Up. Overall, I felt that this project went very well for me. I learned a lot about Sketch Up, such as how it works, and how to get things to look the way I want them to. At first it was hard for me to work in 3D. I had some trouble getting things in the dimensions I wanted them, but the more I worked on the program the easier it became.
I started the project by finding a house plan to base it off of, and then I began to create my house. I began with the basics, building my house up from a rectangle, creating the roof, then slowly adding more detail and architecture. Next time, I will plan my project better from the beginning so I don't have to start over multiple times, and I will focus more on the smaller details of my project. I will still use the same techniques I learned in this project, including pulling/pushing shapes, components, and other methods of designing and detailing. Overall, I enjoyed creating my house and I feel that it turned out well.
My first keynote animation was about a fish that was trying to get food. He faces many obstacles along the way, including another fish trying to take his food, and his food falling to the ground before he can get to it. In the end of the animation, he finally gets food, and then eats the bully fish for revenge. My overall scope of the project was that it was fun to create the images and story on keynote, and I'd like to be able to go into more detail and explore more options with animation. I first thought of the idea of the fish searching for food, and then started by storyboarding it and transferring it to keynote. I took my time on the first slide, making sure the background was exactly how I wanted it. I then progressed the plot of my story as I went, adding plot elements and details in the animation. I learned a lot about keynote, such as how to make shapes look the way I want to, and how to duplicate slides. I also learned how to work fast and efficiently in order to get the project done on time. Next time I will take my time to make the animation a little less choppy, but I will try to keep my creative ideas and storyline. This project taught me the basics of animation and how to make things look the way I want them to.
