Photoshop Projects

For our first project, we used different blend modes to make the ONW and the compass blend into the picture of the school.

For this project, we used the test mask and gradient tool.  We changed the hue, saturation, and brightness on the background image to give it different effects.

We used the lasso tool to select certain parts of the monarch butterfly we wanted to change the color on.  Then we used the clone stamp tool to give the edges on the butterfly a blurred effect.

We used the text mask and layers of gradients to create our name project.

For this project, we used clone stamp and content-aware fill to get rid of night posts and cars, the magnetic lasso to cut out the raven, and text masks to make the pictures look like they're floating in the raven.

In Illustrator, you can create images using shapes, lines, and color, but Photoshop is better when you're working with images.  It is good to have both so you can design different types of graphics using the most effective program possible.

Website

In this project, we used Adobe Dreamweaver to create a website with HTML and CSS.  Although I have never worked with Dreamweaver before, I've worked with HTML and CSS, so I thought this project was fairly easy.

I really enjoy doing stuff like this and I hope to do more in the future. Next project I hope to work more in the code and improve my skills in knowing what all the tags are and how to use them.

My Logo

In this project, we were asked to sketch out a logo mad of our initials and create it on Adobe Illustrator.  We used certain shapes and colors to resemble different ideas and qualities.  I started off the project by brainstorming different possible designs for my logo. My final sketch consisted of my three initials in a sleek, modern font, surrounded by an ellipse.

Once I got to Illustrator, I decided that a circle would be a better choice to pull together my logo.  I used the colors purple and gold to represent the sun, royalty, and give it heavenly/angelic qualities.
Next time, I will spend more time and thought designing and perfecting my logo on Illustrator.  I will utilize the the tools and concepts I learned to make my next project even better.  In conclusion, I really enjoyed using my creativity and computer skills to design and create my logo.

Adobe Illustrator Color Wheel

The colors companies use in their designs are important because different color are associated with different feelings and ideas, sending different messages to the viewer.  If companies don't know the meanings of the colors they're using, they could end up sending the wrong message about their product.

Red - blood, war, power, love
Green - nature, growth, healing, money
Blue - water, truth, wisdom, tranquility
Black - elegance, death, evil, mystery
White - safety, purity, light, cleanliness
Purple - royalty, luxury, ambition, wealth
Yellow - sunshine, joy, intellect, energy
Orange - enthusiasm, fascination, creativity, success
Brown - stability, masculinity, reliability, approachability

Logo Color Use

This is the logo used to represent BP gas stations. It uses the colors green, yellow-green, and yellow, which are analogous colors.  The yellow and white in the logo could represent "the light", the sun, peace, and happiness, which could make people want to go to their gas station.  The green could represent harmony and safety, insuring that people who go to their gas station will be satisfied and well protected.

Interview Final

In this video, I reflected on my experience in the video strand.  I talked about what I learned about editing, filming, collaboration, and if I want to continue in this strand.  One thing I learned during this project was that it's a lot harder to be the actor than the filmer.  In all my previous projects, I was the one filming, so I got to be in charge of the way the shots were set up and make sure they were done the way I envisioned.  In this project, since I was acting, I was not able to do that. I noticed when I was editing that some of the shots were either not completely straight or not at the right angle, so next time I will make sure to either choose people who I know can set up clean shots to be in my group, or check the camera before they start filming.  Some other things I learned are that you have to make sure not to change your hair or the way you're sitting between shots, because it will look like a jump cut in the video, and also that the up and down buttons on the flip cameras adjust the volume, so you have to keep it the same the whole time or else the video will suddenly get louder or softer, but you can adjust the audio on Final Cut Pro in order to make it all even.  Another complication I ran into during this project that I hadn't with my other ones were not getting along as well with the other people in my group.  It made it a lot harder to film and get stuff done, so next time I will be sure to either choose my group wiser or try to be more flexible.  My favorite thing about this class would probably be being expose and getting to try so many new things and meet so many new people.  I loved learning the six shot sequence and how to film it, how to edit on Final Cut Pro, and overall how to collaborate with new people on projects.  I hope to bring the skills I learned in this class to the other strands, and possibly if I continue with this strand in the future.

The Chase

While working on this project, I learned how to put multiple six shot sequences together to create a story with a rising action, climax, and falling action.  I had to figure out how to incorporate the different types of shots while still clearly telling the story.  Although I was not able to help with any filming for this project due to absences, I had a big part in creating the storyboard and general idea for the video, as well as the editing.  In final cut pro, I got more practice with using the arrow keys and blade tool to make the shots smooth and flow with one another.  For my next project, I will use the arrow keys again and continue to work on making my videos even more smooth and continuous. In addition, I will experiment with using more of each clip in my video, making it longer. Collaboration was different in this project in comparison to my last two projects mainly because I was working with different people who had different ideas, strengths, and personalities.  Next project, since I will hopefully get to be involved with the filming, I will be even more open to other people's ideas, and trying different things than I'm used to.

AB Sequence

During this project I learned even more about six shot sequences.  I learned how to film two six shot sequences of two six shot sequences of two different actions in two different locations and edit them together.  I also learned how to film and edit shots so there's not jump cut.  I used the arrows and blade tool in final cut pro in order to avoid that.   I will apply what I learned to my next project by making sure I film the shots faster so that I have enough time to film and edit.  Collaboration means working with others to make the project the best it can be.  Collaboration applied to this project a lot. We all used our combined talents, efforts, ideas, and props to make the video what it is.  We would not have been able to make this video if we didn't work together as a team.

My Personality Type

My Meyer's Briggs personality type is ESTJ.  It stands for extroverted, sensing, thinking, and judging.   This means that I am outgoing, get energy from being with others, practical, logical, and persistent.  We are the supervisors, the organized people who plan projects and keep people on task.  We make quick, rational decisions.  One famous ESTJ was George Washington.

I feel that my personality type describes me in some ways, but not all.  It is true in the fact that I am realistic and logical, but I'm not as organized and structured as the description of ESTJ says. It is also true in the fact that although I'm not always the one coming up with ideas, I'm the person to try and implement the ideas and make sure they are properly carried out.  My type also helps me understand why I like activities where I can socialize, but they don't have to involve constant human interaction.

As said before, my personality type helps me understand why I'm always the person in a group to make sure things are getting done quickly and properly.  I'm not usually the creative person who thinks of the ideas, but I'll definitely be on top getting a project finished.  When I'm not in a position where i'ts my job to do that, it is at times hard for me to properly do my job, and I end up trying to take on the role of what I am most comfortable doing.  I think that my type could have caused me to be mistaken as bossy or stubborn, due to the fact that I always think that I am right, and can have a hard time going with someone else's idea or opinion if I don't agree with it.

Six Shot Sequence

I filmed this video using the Six Shot Sequence.  For the first shot I did an extra close up, or XCU, of his feet.  Here you can see him marking time.  Next I did another extra close up of his hands, where you can see him sliding the trombone.  After that there is a close up of his face, or CU, where you can see him blowing air into his trombone.  Then there is a medium shot, or MS, where you can only see his waist and above.  Next I have a wide shot, or WS, where you can see his entire body, but not the whole setting.  After that there is an over the shoulder shot, or OTS where you see him playing trombone from over his shoulder, and you can see part of him.  Lastly there is an extra wide shot, or XWS, where you can see both all of him and the entire setting around him.  I learned how to use a flip camera and a tripod.  I also learned the six different shots of the six shot sequence and how to film them.  When I do my next project, I will use the six shot sequence, each shot being a sentence and each sequence being a paragraph, and film multiple sequences to create a story.

Highlight Video

To make this highlight video, I used Final Cut Pro.  First, I learned how to download videos from youtube and put them in my folder.  Then I learned how to import videos using command + I. I cropped the videos by hovering my mouse and pressing "I" over where I wanted the clip to start, then hovering my mouse and pressing "O" over where I wanted the clip to end.  I then dragged the newly highlighted clip over to the timeline.  I did this to select parts of all five of my imported videos.  When I finished, I put in transitions by dragging between the clips I wanted them to be.  Then I put in audio by downloading the music I wanted from youtube using video2mp3.net, and saving, importing, and cropping it the same way I did with my other videos.  When I was completely done with my highlight video, I exported it using command + E and saved it to my folder, then uploaded it onto youtube. I chose figure skating as my hobby because I used to do it. I did it competitively for five and a half years, and although I don't do it anymore, I still love the sport a lot and enjoy watching it!
